     在臺灣近年來的宗教熱潮中,慈濟功德會實堪稱為現代人間佛教的典範,此一宗教組織十分重視以積極的實踐行動來淨化濁世,強調以慈善、醫療、教育及文化等具體志業來體現佛法大義。本文嘗試採取組織文化的觀點,探討慈濟醫院作為功德會以事顯理的典型表徵,它所欲展現的文化理念特徵為何﹖以及它採用哪些表達方式來傳達此種宗教性的組織文化理念? 綜合言之,慈濟醫院成立的首要目標乃是慈濟功德會為了闡揚傳統佛教中救渡苦難眾生的佛陀精神,而醫院不論在物質性象徵、故事、語言、或儀式和典禮等文化表達形式方面,皆共同指向此種組織文化的獨特性,而委員志工們作為這個意義體系的共享者和承攜者,尤其能善用、共通語言及弘法佈教等方式,來發揮慈濟精神和文化,使慈濟醫院充滿動態化的佛教祥和氣氛,也增強了慈濟醫院作為慈濟世界之縮影的工具性格。
     In the stream of the recent history of Taiwan, Buddhist Tzu-Chi Association with its many medical, educational, cultural and relief services stands out doubtlessly as the paradigm of a this-world oriented Buddhism. This religious association emphasizes on "purifying the world" through engaging in practical activities. The subjects of this study are the commissioners of Tzu-Chi Buddhist General Hospital, Haulien, one of the best visible symbols embodying the spirit of Tzu-Chi Association. From the organizational cultural perspective, this study explores what kinds of languages, stories, rituals and other symbols they use in their daily work to express the religious ideals of the association.
