As one of the three main types of knowledge which man aspires to, religion has been regarded by Max Scheler as being a constitutive factor of human life. Man being not satisfied with anything finite, his heart will open up for the infinite horizon. He will not find rest until he rests in the absolute being. The analysis is divided into three main sections, the personal aspect of religion, the social aspect of religion, and the tension between religion and science. A comparison between Scheler’s matured period and his final period is also made, so as toi pinpoint their differences as well as their continuity.
