On the Grand Canal, Xushuguan was an important customs house in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It also played an important and significant role among all the customs houses in the Qing Dynasty. Because of geographical proximity, Xushuguan and Suzhou are closely associated in economic relations. This article collected archival information of three periods from Yongzheng to Daoguang (1723-1850) in Qing Dynasty to analyze the customs situation in the Xushuguan. The aim is to clarify the relationship between customs changes in Xushuguan and economic status in Suzhou.
