The purposes of this paper are to provide an in-depth analysis of the concept of "Educational communication and technology" to discuss the orientation of the field and consider the impact of theories and practices on the educational community. Data from a Hong Kong survey, analysis of united states doctoral curriculum and an analysis of AECT conference paper topics are used to support the author's contentions. Concrete suggestions to the field are provided in the conclusion.
