This essay uses ancient Chinese texts that have come to light in recent years to test and appraise the authentication methods and standards proposed by Liang Qichao during the 1920's. The author argues that there are serious errors in Liang's system, both in terms of viewpoint and foundation, and that using his methods to verify the authenticity of ancient texts often results in incorrect assessments.
