This year (1998) is the Year of Lifelong Learning in the R.O.C. People start to plan their learning activities actively, and all wish this society will become a learning society in the near future. Information and library science workers should know their readers' lifelong learning contents so they can anticipate readers' learning trends and help them to fulfill their learning aims. Based on the four pillars of learning--learning to know, learning to do, learning to live, and learning to be, this author discusses their possible contents of each. In the final section, this article suggested twelve functions and tasks that libraries should cooperate to develop, then the library can be "the bridge between the learning society and lifelong learners."
