In this paper, we firstly explain succinctly the meanings of “globalization” and “economic globalization,” pointing out the aspects of possible cultural assimilation. Then we explore the impact of economic globalization on the traditional Confucian “families” and “family” ethics in terms of: first, the increase of separated families (the families of Taiwanese businessmen in mainland China, the families with the wives in America); second, the collective phenomena of late marriages, late child births and only children; and third, the multi-discourse about “family.” Finally, we will point out the solutions available in the Confucian ethics of virtue.
