  經過二十多年的蘊釀及發展,自我決策在美國特殊教育的發展及對障礙者的服務上,有愈來愈受重視的趨勢;然而,到目前為止仍有很多人,包括在特殊教育界服務的教師或工作者,不認為也不相信,甚至懷疑重度障礙者是能自我決策的。因此本文將就何謂「自我決策」及自我決策對重度障礙者的重要性進行討論及說明,並針對促進重度障礙者自我決策提出相關建議作法,以期澄清「重度障礙者是無法自我決策」的觀念,並盼能作為未來教學及實行的參考。
