The purpose of this study was to investigate the influences of parents of student with disabilities on the performance of student self-determination abilities. There were three tiers of the study:1) exploring the factors influencing parental involvement of parents of students with disabilities; 2) exploring factors affecting self-determination abilities of students with disabilities; and 3) the influences of parental engagements on student self-determination abilities.
The data of questionnaire survey were analyzed by t-test, one-way ANOVA , and structural equation modeling, etc. The results of the study are described as the followings:
1. The participation of parents of students with disabilities were only in secondary school.
2. The level of parental engagements varies depending on the children's disorder category, the grade of the children, the family socioeconomic status, and the level of family support.
3、The self-determination abilities of students with disabilities were only in the middle range.
4、The degree of student self-determination abilities would depending on the type of disabilities, the type of placement, and the willingness of the individual to participate in the IEP meeting.
5、The degree of parental involvement had only a partial impact on students' self-determination abilities.
