臺、韓兩國在邁向現代化的歷程中，整體經濟表現優異，彼此各擅勝場，長期互為競爭。亞洲金融風暴後臺、韓經濟表現之比較，一直是 國人關注的議題。本文謹就近九（1997～2005）年來臺、韓兩國從整體經濟表現及國家競爭力兩大層面，比較觀察臺、韓在經濟上之表現。比 較結果發現，近九年來臺灣整體經濟表現不遜南韓。另從近幾年來，臺灣在IMD世界競爭力評比及WEF全球競爭力評比的排名，皆遙遙領先韓 國，顯示我國整體的國家競爭力表現仍優於韓國；不過韓國也急起直追，我們不應以目前的成就自滿，反而應更加努力維持我們已有的優勢， 同時對於我國相對弱勢的項目積極改進，如此才能維持我國競爭力於不墜之地。

In overall economic performance over the past nine years, Taiwan and Korea have both been winners in different ways while also being in competition with each other. Although in recent years both the International Institute of Management Development (IMD) and the World Economic Forum (WEF) have ranked Taiwan's competitiveness far ahead of Korea's, the speed with which Korea has been closing the gap should serve to remind Taiwan that it has no room for complacency. Indeed, to retain its high position in the global competitiveness rankings, Taiwan needs to step up its efforts to maintain its existing competitive advantages while also working strenuously to improve its comparative weaknesses.
