In recent years, the phenomenon of Taiwanese man marrying Southeast Asian women began to take form and thrive. Most of the men are low social status and have limited time for socialization. This condition has made them unattractive grooms for Taiwanese women. Foreign brides, on the other hand, explain their presence in Taiwan as a result of unstable economic and political conditions at home. The foreign brides are treated unequally, and so are their children. The foreign brides need help adapting to the new life in a unfamiliar environment. This is the reason that the study was conducted. The methodological approach is a qualitative research design. In- depth interviews are used to collect empirical data. The interviewees are Vietnamese women. The research period was from August 2004 to July 2005. In total, twenty-three semi-structured interviews were carried out following a question guide made for the study. The interview time is about one hour. The empirical data were analyzed using a hermeneutical analysis technique without computer-based support. Some concepts of Giddens' theory of structuration, such as rule, resources, power, and information behavior guide the early stages of analysis. This research finds that foreign brides seldom seek help or information. Giddens' theory of structuration is used to explain this condition, and to compare the results with that of Chatman's, which focuses on the theory of life in the round and the theory of information poor. Finally, this article emphasizes the important influence of concepts of tradition and fatalism on people's information behavior.
