The basic competencies for the market include knowledge, skills, and attitudes which enable the students to do the good job. They are essential to the success of any worker in the workplace. Today, to maintain a nation's competitiveness in the age of globalization, an investment in human resources education is extremely needed. Hence, basic competencies or employability skills are the subjects of education. This paper studies the basic competencies and its related practice in some countries, the US in particular. The US concentrate specifically on the know-how of skill and competence. The knowhow is made up of five competencies and a three-part basic skills and personal qualities, and are integrated in the school core curriculum. In Taiwan, basic competencies consist of motivation, behavior (habits), and knowledge. It is suggested that Taiwan's school should cooperate with the market to educate students the basic competencies.
