「教科書」在中小學階段扮演著提供學習內容、思考方向和教學方式等資訊的重要角色(陳麗華,2008;Nicol & Crespo, 2006),許多研究也指出,教科書的使用與內容的編排,影響教師的教學甚鉅(Ball & Cohen, 1996; Kauffman, Johnson, Kardos, Liu, & Peske, 2002; Remillard, 1999; Remillard & Bryans, 2004; Sawada et al., 2002),亦將直接影響學生的學習(Briars, 2001; Griffin, Evans, Timms, & Trowell, 2000; Huntley, Rasmussen, Villarubi, Sangtong, & Fey, 2000; Mullis et al., 2000; Reys, Reys, Lapan, Holliday, & Wasman, 2003; Riordan & Noyce, 2001; Tarr et al., 2008)。
