The process of sovereignty and national identity construction across the Taiwan Strait involves many conceptual conflicts and contradictions. However, new intellectual trends emerging with globalization have led to an increasing recognition from both political elites and ordinary people that constructions of sovereignty and national identity should avoid becoming trapped in complex internal subjective discourses. In particular, with the emergence of universal world values, "hard sovereignty" is gradually being replaced by "soft sovereignty." In the future, in interactions across the Taiwan Strait, regardless of forms and contents needs to be worked from an open vision of "global community-governance."
