The fundamental texts for educational circles to conduct research in "Shengping Baofa" (The Precious Raft of Peaceful Times), an imperial court opera in the Qing Dynasty, are 240 episodes in imperial handwritten edition of Ancient Edition Drama Texts Collectanea, Vol. 9 and one volume of "Shengping Baofa Synopsis". As a part of plots of the two works is different and there’s no theatrical programme related scenario listed in Synopsis, this essay can only expound upon what are seen. As the handwritten edition on red-lined paper of "Shengping Baofa" collected by Taipei National Palace Museum has not been applied in academic circles, this essay aims to discuss the importance of this edition. This essay starts with listing three theatrical programmes of "Synopsis, the handwritten edition on red-lined paper, and the imperial handwritten edition as the postscript information for reference, followed by exposition in three aspects. Firstly, this essay narrates differences between Synopsis and theatrical programme in imperial handwritten edition. The second aspect focuses on a discussion of researchers once mentioning or adopting the edition of "Shengping Baofa" and the corresponding research findings. Thirdly, this essay draws on theatrical programme for comparison and preliminary analysis to ascertain Synopsis to be the stage manual using contents of the handwritten edition on red-lined paper for performance and rehearsal. It thus verifies the importance and value of the edition collected by Taipei National Palace Museum that is exactly is the essential text for researchers to conduct related studies.
