Elections are at the heart of the political system, according to conventional wisdom, elections have several purposes. By allowing people to choose their leaders and to vote on public policies. They mandate public officials to carry out certain policies. They mandate public officials to carry out certain policies. And since political leaders serve at the pleasure of the people, elections also provide the means for rewarding good conduct and punishing had. Although elections do not always fit these ideals, they are nevertheless the most important form of mass political participation in a democracy. Because lections are perceived to be so important in the functioning of democracy and because so many people vote in them, the motives of the voter is one of the most prodigiously studied subjects in political science. This paper tried to figure one of why citizen vote for one man over another. The goal of this paper is to sort out some of the information on voting and to put it into a perspective which makes the voting act a bit more comprehensive. Author use empirical study to identify and describe a few of the main forces acting on people as they make up their minds about who to vote for. Some observers say people vote on the basis of their group membership memberships ranging from the family to a social balss. Others think the voter is motivated by psychological forces such as his perception of candidate’s issue and loyalties toward a particular party. There is another group of political scientists who feel people to act with a purpose. Then a man votes, he is trying to achieve some goal. Some of them, decision making theorists, argue that voters vote in a way to mammies rewards and voting is seen as a means to various ends. The other group clams voting is determined largely by voter’s preference on public policy. Most of these positions have compbelling evidence in back of them and it seems obvious that no single theory or model will explain everything. Voting, like many choice situation, is a complex process. All of these approaches contribute to the explanation of the process.
