To ensure success, organization top leaders generally use strategy in the process of decision making. (Strategic management is a type of management about the use of strategies) It deals with not only the traditional planning, organizing, guiding, and controlling management procedures, but also the change of environment. It helps an organization to achieve its developmental goals. We live in a changing era. Effective use of strategic management can improve the outcomes of a business. This article is intended to introduce what the strategic management is as well as its application in a school setting. First, the author states the basic concept of strategic management and discusses the essentials of strategic planning. Then the author discusses some models of strategic management and its possible application in school management. Finally, the author proposes some stragegic management notions and pratices for school management settings. They indlude: 1. Its notions: (1) The principal must handle school matters in a systematic way. (2) The principal must recognize his/her role as a school manager. (3) The principal must recognize the importance of information system in school management. 2.
