　　　　　本研究基於對婦女處境的關切，以及公民資格觀念對於女性權益具有重大影響的理由，研究者試圖結合二者，嘗試從政治哲學的角度去思考女性所遭受的不合理待遇，及所陷入的不平等處境背後的運作邏輯究竟是怎麼一回事，從「公民資格」的面向切入，首先將從自由主義的精神推衍出當代西方民主社會所奉行的普遍公民資格觀背後的理論基礎為 (一) 自由平等的理性人 (二) 政治中立原則 (三) 公私領域的二分，以及普遍的公民資格觀強調無分性別差異，所有人一律平等的意義與內涵；其次則從女性主義的觀點檢視女性在普遍公民資格觀的運作下，為何仍然無法享有生為一個人所應有的權利與尊嚴的主要原因在於，這一套觀點基本上是建基於所謂的男性觀點之上，往往運用同化或排除的策略來打壓女性的性別差異：最後則嘗試從尊重差異的角度，分析差異的公民資格觀所具有的意涵與精神，以期對於女性所面臨的「平等」與「差異」的兩難困境，提供另一種思考的可能。
