高齡化社會是現代先進國家所面臨的最大問題，其中老年人的跌倒在公共衛生與運動科學界更是重要的議題，因此有必要暸解老年人跌倒的因素與跌倒後所帶來的衝擊，並提出相關的預防策略。造成老年人跌倒的主要因素可分為個體限制、工作限制與環境限制三方面。跌倒所造成的衝擊可分為生理層面、心理層面與社會層面。依據造成老年人跌倒的影響因素，可依個體、工作與環境提出預防策略：（1）個體方面首要是增加老年人的身體活動量，以提昇生理功能進而改善生理構造的限制與動作行為的功能限制；（2）工作限制是指器具的設計考量老年人的特性，降低困難度與複雜度以符合老年人使用；與 （3）環境方面則著重降低環境危險程度，如在浴室加裝扶手與防滑設備、增加照明亮度、清除障礙物等。
