Abstract The United States government places a great deal of emphasis on democracy, peace, and security, which will lead to greater prosperity. It therefore uses trade concessions as a leverage to promote freedom, and democracy in countries around the world (including African countries). This means that if a country does not meet the criteria set out by the annual report on human rights, it is deemed undemocratic and therefore do not meet the expectation of the US national interest. In these countries, the US will play the role as a “mediator” , which has the ultimate goal of changing the country’ s government system in order to ensure US national interest is served in the region. China adheres to the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence, and does not interfere in the internal affairs of African countries because they share a similar historical experience.China is support for these countries are based on empathy, which is a more gradual approach to encourage African countries to dedicate themselves first to the policy of survival and development. China could play a role of “ conciliator” , with the aim to maintain and promote African unity in solving major conflicts through peaceful negotiations. The Sino-African partnership is geared toward the future inclusive of long-term stability, equality and mutual benefit by following the basic principles of sincere friendship, treating each other equally, and cooperation in the areas of common development.
