Ever since the earliest days, scholars have had different opinions on the usage and function of 'chun-tzu said' in Tso-Chuan. After synthesizing past scholars' interpretations and adding the author's personal opinion, the paper tries to explain 'chun-tzu said' from three perspectives: who wrote 'chun-tzu said'?; who did chun-tzu refer to?; what was the function of 'chun-tzu said'? 'chun-tzu said' was a remark people preferred to use in their conversations or writing at that time. It was not monopolized by Tso Chuan only. The socalled chun-tzu meant neither Confucius nor any particular wise man. Moreover, chun-tzu did not represent the author of Tso-Chuan. Rather, chuan-tzu was sometimes used to propose a discussion, while at other times it was used to quote wise and honored people's opinions, both uses aiming to decide right from wrong, and express the author's feelings. Through the form of a statement or a discussion, the significance of Chun Chiu Ching was also expanded.
