This article endeavors to reconstruct the history of Yangming jianghui (learning and discussing meeting) activities in Ningguo Prefecture during the Ming dynasty, especially in the three representative districts of Jing, Xuancheng, and Taiping. In addition to the general development of Yangming learning in each distrct, the discussion also focuses on certain jianghui in particular, including Shuixihui in Jing, Wanlinghui and Tongrenhui in Xuancheng, and three county-level jianghui in Taipintg (Jiulonghui, Shiyihui, and Wusonghui). The leading scholars and patron families of these jianghui were also discussed. By considering factors like demographic differences, intellectual culture, and the degree of success in civil service examinations found within each county, this article further analyzes the different figurations of Yangming learning found in the three districts. From the perspective of the age-groups, I demonstrate that scholars reacted to the contemporary political and intellectual issues, which characterized their generational identity and further complicated the culture of jianghui. Therefore, late-Ming jianghui activities in Ningguo were resonant with the general intellectual shift away from Yangming learning, though Yangming tradition was not forsaken completely.
