運動組織公關人員主要的溝通對象包括員工、運動迷、投資者、消費者、政府、媒體、社區大眾、公益團體和學術界等;而公共關係的目的在於建立運動組織與社會大眾間雙向溝通與相互了解。由於網路的興起,許多職業運動團隊紛紛利用網路作爲行銷工具,然而,透過網路發揮公共關係功能之探討與實證研究仍然較爲缺乏,因此,如何透過新科技建立與不同公眾之間的關係成爲運動組織重要的研究課題。運動組織若能善用網路公關的力量,藉以融合運動迷、消費者、社區大眾和媒體的需求,並掌握新的溝通生態與傳播策略,應能協助運動組織維持競爭力以達成溝通目標。
