Some material objects constantly appear in traditional Chinese poetry. The significance of these objects would sometimes gradually go beyond their objective concrete meanings and be given rich subjective emotional projections through subtle connections and implications by the author. As good readers, we need to adequately understand the poetic expression of ambiguous images in order to perform the task of poetry interpretation. This paper will take two images, the swing and the screen, as examples, and elaborate the special connotations they may possess in certain poetry. Without realizing their correlative significance, readers will lose much in poetry understanding. Through inspiration from the two examples, we can deduce a more in-depth way of reading poetry.
