Yunnan, located in the southwest border area of Mainland China, natives of Yunnan to use cowry shells as a medium of exchange and taxation. After the Ming Dynasty's intermediate stage, the government planned to cast copper coins and supply them for circulation in Yunnan, but it's success was quite limited. Until the Tian-Chi Period, in many cities people monetary transactions had formed the custom of silver and copper coins. During mid Kangxi Period of Qing Dynasty, official took advantage of Yunnan's copper production to gain the interest of cast for huge military expenditure. However, the cast of copper coins in Yunnan were unable to circulate smoothly because of excess supply and being difficult to adjust. So Yunnan's cast of copper coins was forced to stop manufacturing for long time. After the cast restarted in Yongzheng Period, Yunnan's copper coins were often oversupply, but official had put the cast of copper coins as the important source for circulation of inland province. This not only eased the excess supply of copper coins and nationwide high coin price, but also contributed to improve Yunnan's financial condition.
