傳統的英文閱讀教學,主要是以靜態方式進行,並透過記憶性考試來衡量學習成果,但這樣的學習經驗往往讓學生感到無聊或挫折,導致在教學現場中,學生經常只顧著玩手機或做自己的事情,甚至直接趴下睡覺,而這樣消極的學習模式,通常讓授課教師很苦惱,又很無能為力。但在全球化的網路時代中,英文閱讀能力絕對是與世界接軌的必備能力之一,若學生無法透過閱讀網路內容來提升自己的競爭力,將來在職場上的發展將可能受限。有鑒於英文閱讀能力對學生未來的重要性,本研究以學生的學習經驗為出發點,應用發現學習論為基礎,旨在發展一個創新的英文閱讀教學方法,改善學生學習經驗,以期最終能針對此教學現場之問題,提出一解決策略。本研究實施課程為科技大學應用外語系之大二英文閱讀課,創新教學方法採用摘要及心智圖兩種教學技巧,提供學生主動建構知識的機會,並結合資訊科技,增加師生課堂之互動性;透過學習經驗調查及課程滿意度問卷調查顯示,學生對於此創新教學方法滿意度很高,且有一半以上學生認為英文閱讀課變得有趣,並期待未來能有更多類似創新創意課程。本研究成果對於目前教學現場之問題提供一解決策略,也同時提供未來欲嘗試創新教學之英文教師一參考教學模式。
Traditionally, in an English reading class, English teachers usually lecture throughout the entire class, and students' academic performance depends on how well they can do in paper-based exams. This traditional teaching method sometimes causes students to lose interest and even consider this learning experience painful. Therefore, it is not uncommon to find that students play with their cell phones or even fall asleep during class, which becomes a serious problem in today's classrooms. However, in this global era with the proliferation of network access, English reading is definitely one of the key abilities for students to link themselves with the world. Due to the important role the English reading ability plays in students' future, this study, based on the theory of discovery learning, aims to solve this problem by developing an innovative teaching method in English reading to improve students' learning experience. This research was carried out in the English reading class of second-year students in the department of Applied Foreign Languages of a university. Techniques of summarizing and mind maps were employed in class so that students were provided with the opportunity to build knowledge upon what they had already learned. The study results revealed that students' learning experience improved significantly at the end of the semester. The results not only provide a practical solution for teaches who encounter the same problem in class, but also introduce a new teaching model for English teachers who wish to try innovative instruction in their classes.
