　　　　　本文旨在由馬克思的歷史社會學的視角來探討中世紀西歐的莊園制度，它不僅是 一種經濟制度，而且還是一種社會制度，並且主宰著居民的整體生活，莊園中的居民不僅是 領主的佃農；也是領主的臣民。然而，這時期是以直接剝削農奴的勞役地租（剩餘勞動）為 基礎，這種榨取形式是公開的和明顯的，這與資本主義社會中雇主從雇傭勞動者那裡獲取的 隱蔽的剩餘價值是鮮明的對照。本文探討的另一主軸是公有地，它是許多窮人賴以為生的公 共福利領域。後來由於領主圈佔公有地作為私人的牧場，使窮人失去賴以維生的生活資料， 以至於，造成貧困化之不可遏止，尤其無地者就到處遊蕩尋找工作或成為乞丐，同時也發生 社會政策的變動。
　　　　　This paper explores the Western manor in the Middle Ages from perspective of Marxian historical sociology. The manor was not only economic but social institution dominating tenant farmer's whole life; and the peasantry were not merely tenant but also subject of their landlords. The dominant form of exploitation in this age was based on direct appropriation of tenant farmer's labour rent' which was soexoteric and conspicuous that in contrast with esoteric appropriation of surplus value from wage labour in capitalist societies. The other theme addressed in this paper is the common which has been the place of benefit on which the poor depended. However, stepwise enclosure, landlords' appropriating the common into private pasture, deprived the poor's living materials and further deteriorated the pauperization. Moreover, those landless people had on alternatives but to wander otherwise to begaround and hence forced profound change in social policies.
