從郭店竹簡的材料看，天人之分是早期儒家的一個基本主張。竹簡的天人之分影響到孟子，而與荀子有所不同。荀子的天人之分內涵較複雜，以往學術界的理解有簡單化的嫌疑。孟子、荀子其實都講天人之分，也講天人合一，只是在層面上有所不同而已。
