This article principally discusses two questions. The first question is dates of life and death of the first “imperial emissary of Taiwan” (巡臺御史), Huang Shu-Jiang (黃叔璥). The second question is related to the writer of the preface of “Tai-Hai-Shih-Cha-Lu (臺海使槎錄)”. As for the former, we discover that “Ming-Ch'ing Archives (內閣大庫檔案)” collected in Academia Sinica (中央研究院) in Taiwan retains some information about Huang Shu-Jiang's (黃叔璥's) activities. This information could help us pinpoint his retirement in 1751, his birth in 1682 and death in 1758. As for the latter, we are of the opinion that the record about the writer of the preface of the “Tai-Hai-Shih-Cha-Lu (臺海使槎錄)”in “Shih-Shu-Sian-Cing (使署閒情)” is correct, because our inference is that it was written by Liou Shih-Ci 六十七 himself, according to the text in “Shih-Shu-Sian-Cing (使署閒情)” and “Tai-Hai-Shih-Cha-Lu (臺海使槎錄)”. For this reason, we are sure that the writer of preface of “Tai-Hai-Shih-Cha-Lu (臺海使槎錄)” is Lu Zeng-Yu (魯曾煜).
