This paper focuses on the texts of Lao-zi, in which analysis of the reality of “man” was presented in his doctrine. We will first identify his attitude towards life and death, from which we conclude that remains positive about life. Secondly, we will analyze the reality of “man”, which Lao-zi assumed, in terms of “mind,” “intelligence,” and “will.” In addition, we will also discuss whether Lao-zi’s doctrine is a sort of “anti-intellectualism,” whether it is related to something similar to the Confucians’ idea of “human nature,” and whether the “reality of man” he pointed out is the source of values.
