1990年梁啓超到檀香山宣傳保皇思想,與華僑之女何蕙珍發生婚外情,最後以分手作收。梁啓超當時寫了兩封家書給元配李蕙仙說明婚外情原委,照梁啓超〈與蕙仙書〉字面上的說法,他寫這封家書是要坦承面對自己精神上的出軌,告別這段婚外情,實踐一夫一妻制的理想,此說法為梁啓超贏得歷史好評。但從〈與蕙仙書〉字裡行間的小隙縫中,以及婚外情的後續發展來判斷,梁啓超〈與蕙仙書〉文字背後顯然隱藏其個人的權力與欲望。本文從「文學符號學」(Literature Semiology)的角度切入,將梁啓超〈與蕙仙書〉視為一個經過編碼的符號(sign),試圖進行符號解碼的工作,將此一符號「能指」(signifier)和「所指」(signified)區分開來,「能指」方面,梁啓超〈與蕙仙書〉持續為維新運動的理想做服務、替「一夫一妻制」建立典範,「所指」方面,其消極意義是補償婚姻生活中的精神損失,做為自我教贖之道,其積極意義則希望促成李蕙仙知難而退,梁啓超得以與何蕙珍長相廝守。梁啓超〈與蕙仙書〉的符號學意義則在於把身為知識男性(the sit of masculine literary pleasure and exchange)的「扮相」(performativity)完美詮釋。
In 1900, Liang Qichao went to Honolulu to propagate royalism thought. He and the daughter of oversea Chinese Hui-Zhen He had extermarital affair, but parting finally. Liang Qichao wrote two family letters to his first wife (Hui-Xian Lee) at that time for explaining the extramarital affair. According to the statement of The Letter To Hui-Xian, he want to admit overstepping the1imit spiritually himself while writing the family letter and say good-bye to this section of extramarital affairs to practise the ideal of the monogamy. This statement earns the historical favorable comment for him. But in the undertone of celestial book and the follow-up development of extramarital affair, The Letter To Hui-Xian obviously hide his personal power and desire behind the characters. This article will regard as one sign passing the code from the viewpoint of literature Semiology. Divided the code into signifier and signified for attempting to decode the code. In signifier, The Letter To Hui-Xian serve for the ideal of The Reform Movement, seting up the model fir the monogamy. In signified, its passive meaning is to compensate the emotional distress in marriage life and being the own way of redemption. Its positive meaning Liang Qichao could be together forever with Huu, by prompting John to retreat in the face of difficulties. The Semiology of meaning in The Letter To Hui-Xian, lie in taking as perfection annotation in performativity of masculine literary.
