The purpose of this study is to discuss the affect of applying the cooperative learning method at university physical education classes, and to understand how this method affects students with different learning abilities. This study took a quasi-experimental approach using pretest-posttest, nonequivalent-group design. Subjects are total 101 sophomores. 51 students in one class was randomly assigned to be the experimental group while other 50 students in one class was the control group. In the process of experiment, we apply the cooperative learning method to the experimental group, and apply the traditional teaching method to the control group. Before starting the experiment, two groups of students were required to take pre-tests, experiment process, and pro-tests. Apply statistics methods, such as paired-sample t test, MANOVA…etc, to the received information. The result of this study is: 1. Regards to learning table tennis backhand block, experimental group and control group's posttests are obviously better than pretests. 2. Experimental group's effect in learning table tennis backhand block is obviously better than the effect of Control group. Regards to low-ability students, Experimental group's effect in learning table tennis backhand block is obviously better than the effect of Control group. We can conclude that, applying the cooperative learning method at university physical education classes has positive effects among students in learning table tennis Backhand Block.
