《耶穌的藝術》是七等生閱讀《聖經．馬太福音》的筆記，可以將此作定位為作家以再現耶穌形象，來進行自我審視的自我敘事。在寫作性質上，雖說《耶穌的藝術》僅是作家的閱讀筆記，然而從〈馬太福音〉到《耶穌的藝術》，作家說解的心跡，與再現的耶穌形象，正是七等生有意將「耶穌」建構為一門「理想藝術」的用心所在。此一「理想藝術」，恰可提供作家在出處應對的緊迫抉擇之際，一個重整生活與寫作信仰的座標。此外，從書寫形式與內容的雙重關注中，本文也提出，「耶穌的藝術」作為一門「理想藝術」，它的主題便存在於「愛」與「戰鬥」相互交參的雙重敘事線索中。也就是說，作家心目中的「理想藝術」，便是一門在「愛與戰鬥」的雙向命題中，尋找到身心安頓的藝術。甚至可以說，此一主題便是驅動七等生展開追尋書寫的內在動能：作家一系列的追尋書寫，便是對「愛」與「戰鬥」進行種種回應之書寫。追尋書寫中，作家提出的「如何追求理想？」、「如何成為理想？」之問，也正是七等生做為台灣現代文學代表作家的最具「代表性」，與「現代性」之所在。

The Art of Jesus serves as a guide for readers to gain insight into notes taken by Qidengsheng when reading Bible-the Gospel of Matthew that can be positioned as self narratives of a journey of self-examination by the author in the reconstructive image of Jesus. Though the Art of Jesus is the author’s notes on his reading of this book in terms of the nature of writing, the author's innermost feeling of interpretation and reconstructive image of Jesus form Bible-the Gospel of Matthew to the Art of Jesus has exactly revealed Qidengsheng's motive to construct ＂Jesus＂ as an ＂Ideal Art＂. This ＂Ideal Art＂ is a coordinate reorganizing life and writing faith to be exactly available for the author in the act of dealing with imminent choice. From twofold attention to writing style and content, this essay puts forward ＂The Art of Jesus＂ as an ＂Ideal Art＂ that its theme exists in the interlocking of twofold narrative lines of ＂Love and Battle＂. In other words, ＂Ideal Art＂ is an art of settling the mind and body for the author’s search in the two-way proposition of ＂Love and Battle＂. It can even be said that this theme is an inner force that drives Qidengsheng to embark on the pursuit of writing: the pursuit of a series of writing by the author is the writing in responses to the two-way proposition of ＂Love and Battle＂. In the pursuit of writing, questions of ＂How to pursue aspirations＂ and ＂How to be ideal＂ put forward by the author exactly lies Qidengsheng's role as the most representative and modern among the representative writers in modern Taiwanese literature.
