　　　　　本文運用歌仁（Guerin）及坎伯（Campbell）原型批評理論，以探討英國作家格雷安．葛林三本主要小說權柄與榮耀、事情真相、和麻瘋廢人中三位主角所呈現之英雄原型。三本小說中，威士忌神父、史哥比少校、和奎利分別都屬悲劇性英雄原型；他們在現實生活中面對善惡衝突，惡劣困境，奮力掙扎，經歷長遠旅程（追尋主題），身心方面受到嚴重酷考驗；他們歷經無知、失望、內心予盾，及無數痛苦，而至成長覺悟（成長過程）；雖在旅程中得到幫助，逃過劫難，他們終究成為現實人生的受害者（代罪羔羊）。三位主角的一生實符合歌仁和坎伯所提出的英雄原型典範。

　　　　　This study employs the archetypal patterns of Guerin and others in exploring the hero archetype in Graham Greene's three major novels, The Power and the Glory, The Heart of the Matter, and a Burnt-Out Case. In these three novels, the Whisky Priest, Major Scobie, and Querry are respectively tragic heroes who are involved in the universal struggle between good and evil-a struggle against incomprehensible forces of life. They undertake long suffering journey, both mental and physical (Quest), undergo a series of ordeals in passing from ignorance and immaturity to spiritual adulthood (Initiation), and fleet with “helpers”, minor characters who assist them during the ordeals. However, finally they die as victims (Sacrificial Scapegoat). In a word, the three protagonists are ture heroes fitting within the hero archetypes of transformation and redemption; they fit into the archetypes of Quest, Initiation, and Scapegoat suggested by Guerin and Campbell.
