本期刊登的是本文上半部分。作者首先對當代社會科學方法論脈絡進行了梳理，對實證主義不能理解主觀意義的批評屬於“主觀的批評”；對實證主義無力解釋社會結構的批評屬於“客觀的批評”。詮釋學進路(approach)是“主觀的批評”中的一個進路，本文上半部分主要在“主觀的批評”範圍裡凸顯這個進路的特徵。作者圍繞幾個典型人物，勾勒出詮釋學思想在社會學、人類學與心理學中引申和轉化的軌跡。進而，作者闡釋了詮釋學進路的幾個重要概念，討論了這個進路“對話”的有效性問題。
