The purposes of this study were as below: (1) to compare the differences in career development between the players with diverse features; (2) to explore the relationship between sport motivation and career development. Participants of this study were recruited from all the 36 male and female table-tennis teams that competed at the 2007 High School Students’ Games. A battery of questionnaires was administered to 360 players during the period of the Game. Then, 264 valid copies were returned. Sequentially, t test, one-way ANOVA and Pearson product-moment correlation were utilized to analyze the data collected. This study showed that gender and academic achievement differences were found in the exploration of career. Male players seemed to be positive for their future career planning. In addition, players with medium academic performance revealed better preparation for the future career. However, sports age and sport accomplishment were found none er, there is no relationship between career development and sport motivation, which might be due to lack of information provision concerning career transition. In accordance with the findings above, this study addresses concrete suggestions to the authority, coaches, and parents in an effort to help high school table-tennis players develop a better career planning.
