A number of differences exist between Su and Xin's writings. However, to further examine the differences and provide an alternative perspective, this study focuses only on how the two authors' used the word ”drunk” in their writing, examining which words they matched with the term and how they employed it. Because their writing is characterized as liberal and outspoken, we adopted their use of the word drunk as the material for investigation. To achieve the study goals, we assessed how the word drunk appears in the authors' writings according to constituting phrases in modern Chinese lexicology that provide the same meaning in a more precise and descriptive manner. Then, we used the statistical information to develop the study thesis. This study highlights the distinctions between Su and Xin's liberal and outspoken expressions through their use of the word drunk. The results of this analysis may provide an alternative approach for literary criticism or stylistics.
