張載與二程、邵雍等人之間的交往，可說是中國思想史上的「一大事因緣」。衰弊的儒家思想，經由此數人的努力，在短時間內重新散發光芒，堪稱是思想史上的奇蹟。張載和邵雍的來往較少，和二程之間的道學交游則十分密切。二程對張載思想的形成有重大的影響，但同時也引發張載之學是否師承自二程的問題。本文分三階段探討張載與二程的道學交游，以及在這三個階段中張載思想的不同發展。第一個階段張載受二程影響，得以確立學思的根本方向，到第三個階段，完成其思想體系的定調之作—《正蒙》，張載已建構出自己的哲學系統，和二程在天道論和工夫論上的看法存在著明顯的歧異。張載死後，關學一度衰微，「關學洛學化」使得關學的發展出現複雜的情況，但是關學並沒有真正消失，關學畢竟不是洛學。張載之後的關學學者如呂柟、馮從吾、李二曲，繼承了張載躬行禮教、苦心亟力、重視實踐的這個面向；而張載以氣為本的思想，則是由非關中學者的王夫之繼承下來。張載學說中「以氣為本」和「以禮為教」這兩個最重要的思想，就這樣在關學傳承的過程中被複雜而弔詭的繼承下來。
