In the area of communication studies, the intellectual history shows that early books of its kind helped shape the discipline to a great extent. A total of 1,648 items (books) were found in the National Chengchi University's libraries. By estimation, about 2,000 Chinese books in communication studies were published in Taiwan in the last 50 years. Nearly half of the collection was published in the last decade of the 20th century and over half of it was books relating to practical aspects of mass communication industry.
