中華民國政府遷台之後從未放棄反攻大陸之最神聖使命，為能讓軍民抱持高昂士氣，並結合東南沿海地區游擊部隊之力量與配合盟國牽制共軍在朝鮮半島之發展，國軍利用各種有利情勢，對上述地區進行突擊及游擊作戰，以使共軍有所忌憚。本文以福建反共救國軍所進行之湄州島、南日島及東山島諸戰役為例，希望讓讀者瞭解1950年代初期國軍在東南沿海島嶼作戰概況與各種限制。

Counterattacking Mainland China was the most sacred mission for the government of Republic of China (ROC) after retreating to Taiwan. In order to keep people in high morale and combine the guerrilla forces in southeast coast, the ROC army used all favorable situations to perform assault and guerilla attacks upon these areas. Through these attacks, the ROC army not only maintained fervent ambition and counterattack hope, but also assisted the Allies in curbing and threatening the Communist movement.
