The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships and prediction of perfectionism, goal orientations and trait anxiety on intercollegiate athletes’ burnout. This study sampled 371 Taiwanese intercollegiate athletes (males = 258; females = 113) with mean age of 20.57 (SD = + 1.59) years and administered Multi-dimensional Perfectionism (Lu, Cheng, Chao, & Huang, 1999), Task and Ego Orientation in Sport Questionnaire (TEOSQ, Chi, 1994), Sport Competition Anxiety Scale (SCAT, Lu, 1990) and Athlete Burnout Inventory (Lu, 2001). A Pearson Correlation analysis found perfectionism correlated with burnout in intercollegiate athletes. Also, task orientation negatively correlated with burnout but not ego orientation. Further, it was found trait anxiety correlated with burnout in intercollegiate athletes. Moreover, it was found perfectionism, goal orientations, and trait anxiety predicted burnout in intercollegiate athletes. Implications of this result for future researcher were discussed.
