Participant Observation of Qualitative Research method was used to study the adapted physical education in an elementary school full-time special class teached by a male special education teacher. The research duration was about 4 months. I observed the class sixteen times and informally interviewed the teacher twenty-four times. The observed items of adapted physical education were “dodgeball”, “mat tumbling”, “games on apparatus” and “freestanding exercise”. For enhancing the validity of data, I took advantage of the video tapes during the observation, informally interviewed teacher and collected related data. The results of data analysis showed: 1. There are twenty-one, eleven, twenty-six and thirteen effective modulated teaching strategies respectively about “dodgeball”, “mat tumbling”, “games on apparatus” and “freestanding exercise”. To add up are seventy-one kinds. 2. The results of whole analysis showed that seventy-one modulated teaching strategies can be induced four big categories: “giving prompts”, “bare-hand assistance”, “flexibly using equipments” and “modulating difficulty”. Finally according to the results of this research, I bring up some suggestions for adapted physical education teaching and future research.
