Our research materials include the Hakka in Hunan, Sichuan, Jiangxi, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, and Taiwan, which cover a wide range of geographical areas. Through the comparison of Hakka among those areas, we can categorize the palatalization of Hakka into three major types and four evolution models. There are various forms of palatalization in Hakka dialects, which appear significant regional characteristics. While consonants of Jian (見) Group in Middle Chinese with no palatalization are found in Taiwan, Guangdong ,and few regional dialect spots in Jiangxi, those with palatalization appear mainly in Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Sichuan, and other provinces.〔tʃ□〕、〔tsu〕in the consonants of Jian (見) Group in Middle Chinese are the continual evolution following palatalization, and nowadays only appear in Hunan Hakka.
