Based on a recent classic reading list from a group of university professors for high school students, this paper explores the significance of classic reading. Firstly, this paper explains why young people today do not read the classics: their reading capability is not sufficient (they are not equipped with the capability of analytical reading), as well as their willingness is not enough (they do not see the classics echo their life experiences); Secondly, this paper analyzes the light novels and finds the main reason of this genre in attracting young people is because its plots resonate teenagers life experiences. It is also possible for educators to understand adolescents better through reading this kind of genre. Finally, this paper tries to put forward four different future focuses in promoting reading activities.
