Epistemology is a term used in Western philosophy to discuss the essence of knowledge. It also involves the problem of epistemological methodology. In using epistemology in Chinese thought, we are attempting to take Chinese thinking from intuition into logical analysis. Then, when analysis fails, we sink into an unenviable position. From examining the understanding of epistemology put forward by Chinese scholars in the Huai Nan Zi, I was able to abstract a blueprint. This article looks at five modern representative Chinese scholars, Hu shi Fung Yu Lan, Ren Shu Yu, Jin Chun Fung and Li Zeng in studying the results of the last eighty years of research into the epistemology of the Huai Nan Zi. I believe that the elucidation of the process of the synthesis of Chinese thought with epistemology has a definite purpose.
