受到西方傳學界整合趨勢的影響，華人傳學者對整合「口語傳」與「大眾傳播」成為單一的傳學門已漸具共識，雖然在整合方式上仍意見分歧。有別於「口傳棄口語、大傳棄大眾」，共同向傳播靠攏的「平行整合」建議，本文以Dance及Knapp的理論為基礎，提倡依「種系發生」與「個體發生」的兩條時間軸線，透過「口傳先大傳後」、「口傳體大傳用」的模式來進行傳播學門的「垂直整合」。作者也建議了整後合口傳與大傳的四種對話可能。
Following the tend started in the West, Chinese communication scholars have gradually reached consensus on integrating “speech communication” (SPCM) and “mass communication” (MSCM) into a new discipline of “communication studies” although they disagree about how the integration should be enacted. Rejecting the popular “horizontal integration” proposal, the authors follow the ideas originated by Dance and Knapp, suggesting to “vertically” integrate SPCM and MSCM along the lines of phylogenesis and ontogenesis of human communication, considering SPCM as the basis of MSCM, and MSCM as the extension of SPCM. The authors further propose that as a member of communication family, SPCM should take “talk,” including “public talk” and “private talk” as its core concepts. MSCM should take “media” as its core concept.
