本研究利用問卷調查法，以台灣各主要離島之遊客為對象，採等距抽樣方法，抽取逢機樣本，研究台灣離島島嶼遊客的遊憩體驗與旅遊特性，並探討島嶼觀光永續經營之可能性。從2003年2月至3月(淡季)，及7月至8月(旺季)間共發放497份問卷，其中拒答50份，廢卷9份，有效問卷有438份，在95 %之信賴水準下，抽樣誤差為4.7 % 。遊客體驗之重視度、滿意度與生態旅遊評估等3個量表之信度，分別為0.8878、0.8601及0.7983。遊憩體驗的重視度皆顯著的大於滿意度，且重視度與滿意度呈顯著的正相關。離島島嶼應充分利用島嶼特有的生態資源、自然景觀、海洋資源、及人文景觀等，配合環境及遊憩解說服務，並積極改進遊憩安全設施與環境，發展負責任的生態旅遊，期達離島島嶼觀光的永續發展。
