和平研究歷經數十年的努力，逐漸脫離國際關係研究在歐美國家成為一門獨立的學科。但國內的國際關係研究中，和平研究仍是有待開發的領域，但隨著國際學術交流頻繁、資訊科技（特別是網際網路）便利與國家的政治實務需要（尤其是台海緊張關係），和平研究將會成為新興的另類研究領域。透過理解和平研究的趨勢，有助於此研究領域在國內政治學界的發展，進而發展符合兩岸關係的衝突預防理論，影響實際政治的發展，成就此知識社群的知識目的。
