本文主要探討漢語成語中，多義字「下」的語意及其語法化歷程。我們的語料主要蒐集自教育部成語典(2005)以及中研院的現代漢語平衡語料庫（1996）。在漢語中「下」具有位置的意思，可當作主要動詞或是動詞的補語。本文以意像圖式（image chema）（Brugman, 1981; Lakoff, 1987；Ungerer & Schmid, 2006）來呈現把位置意思做為核心語意的語式，藉此顯示漢語使用者如何將「下」的典型語意轉化成非典型語意。我們可以透過方位相關隱喻在空間關連與非空間領域間的隱喻映照理解語意發展的過程，我們的結論是「下」正逐漸的語法化，其語意擴展由方向領域延伸到非方向領域，此外還有轉喻和語法化的歷程，這些都顯示出台灣社會依舊維持高權力差距。
