The modern secularization movement of Chinese Buddhism is tightly coupled with the rapid change of the society. It is synchronized with the adaptive and progressive modernization of the Chinese society and is a comprehensive and long-term movement. Three main perspectives are identified to describe this movement: the modernization of the spreading of the Buddhism Text, the institutionalization of the sangha education, and the Buddhism research in academic. The content, influence and results of this movement are all described based upon these three perspectives. This paper thinks that these three perspectives form the core of the secularization movement. The solid developments in these three perspectives protects the secularization movement from vulgar and superstition. By examining the results of the movement in three perspectives, the continuity between Mainland and Taiwan can be clearly observed. The openness and the grassroots practice in Taiwan make Taiwan the mainstream of the modern Chinese Buddhism secularization movement.
